Bog Off Idle

Hello All. Suzuki T350 won't rev right off of idle. Need to ream it up to 5 or 6 grand to take off and it still wants to bog. Carbs rebuilt, timing on the mark (although I guess I should verify it as its been a while since I set it), and new plugs. Suggestions on where to start are appreciated.

Forgot to mention that it smokes like heck out of the right side exhaust. Bad crank seal? Can that be changed without splitting the cases? Thanks.

Sounds like the timing is not correct or you're battery needs properly tested. These bikes run like crap when either is an issue. Those are the 2 most common occurrences for your symptom. Just because the bike starts, idles, lights work, battery holds a charge, etc. Doesn't mean the battery is any good or the timing is correct. You have to run it through a few proper tests to test the battery. I'm not very familiar with the T series bikes. But, I can't imagine any 2 stoke not needing the cases split to replace the seals. You have to do a leak down test or read and compare plug readings to verify that the seals or a seal is shot. Some bikes you can replace the outer seals if they need changed without splitting the cases. Not sure about the T350. Regardless, if the inner seals are shot, it requires the cases to be split.

Having checked and carried out the above, I'd have a look at the idle circuits on the carbs.

If you are ABSOLUTELY sure that all the passage ways were clean after the rebuild, I'd play around with the idle mixture screws. On my T500, they need to be turned in a bit (richening the mixture, others have suggested weakening the mixture by turning the screws out)

The outer crank seals on the T500 can be changed without splitting the cases. All you need to do is drill a couple of small (1mm) holes in the steel outer of the seal then grab hold with a stout pair of pliers and it will pop out. Make sure you blow out any swarf and debris from the surrounding area before you start reassembling. When installing the new seal you will need to be careful not to damage the lip. I always soak the new seal overnight in two stroke oil and wrap some ptfe tape around the end of the crank to make sure any sharp edges don't tear the new seal. Find a socket slightly smaller than the o/d of the seal and GENTLY tap it home. Job done
Those jap bikes are rubbish they won't last five minutes son, get yourself a nice Royal Enfield!

Appreciate the input guys. Will check the timing first and then try fooling with the mixture screws. Don't remember where I had them set.

Hey Pearljam724, where in SW PA you from? I moved to SoCal almost 40 years ago from near Johnstown. Rode a GT380 all over that area in the 70s as I went to school at PSU in Uniontown.

Small world. I was born in Uniontown and lived there for several years combined over the years. I now live in a tiny town 6 miles away called Fairchance. Fairchance is where I grew up. Very small town. A grocery store, 1 gas station and not much more than that. But, it has a lot of cool history. Beautiful place to live and lots of great routes to ride. That's the way I like it. Economy is tough though, for a lot of people. But, you can say that about a lot of places. Uniontown, is starting to grow very quickly in the past 5 years. Where, it had a bad few decades where it was very stagnant. A lot of people don't know this. This area had a huge hand in the development of this country. French and Indian war, building of the first National Road, coal and coke era, many other things. Now, like the rest of the country. It's known for drugs, crime and shopping chains, lol ! Because, we make absolutely nothing. Yeah !

There's a hardly a high street where you can't get anything you want for a pound, there is always the traditional Victorian tattoo parlours and cheap hairdressers etc. Round the corner there's a dodgy car repair shop. And in the evenings, well, there are still plenty of 'services' available. As I always say, you can't put any of THAT down the internet.

YIKES. The UK and Uniontown PA can be like sister city/country/kingdom/etc/etc. Plus, if I remember my history correctly, this area of SW PA, including Fort Necessity just east of Uniontown, was where the Yanks and General Braddock teamed up to fight the Indians and French! I believe Braddock was killed and is buried there. The riding in that hilly area as pearljam mentioned is superb. Wish I was there this time of year!!

George Washington built it. They didn't have much time to plan for anything larger. The French and Indians were on their way. American history tells the story that the French or Indians killed Bradock. But, an American soldier has been documented to saying. That the truth is, Bradock was killed by one of his own men in a dispute over open field war far with the Indians. Rather than hiding, while fighting. Bradock supposedly wanted to fight the French and Indians out in the open. Which was suicidal warfare considering how greatly they were outnumbered.
